Work begins on SE 3rd Street Water Line

A contractor will begin early construction work on replacing the Southeast Third Street Water Line on Monday, Feb. 13.

This water main replacement will result in some traffic impacts and water service interruptions. All water service shutoffs are expected to last one day, and impacted water customers, both residents and businesses, will be notified by the contractor in advance of any planned shutoffs.

This project will replace a 100-year-old water main with updated materials and connections including a new 12-inch water main between Southeast Byers Avenue and Southeast Court Avenue and a new 18-inch water main along Southeast 3rd Street in the downtown business district between Southeast Court Avenue and Southeast Emigrant. The fire hydrant at the southeast corner of Southeast Court Avenue will also be replaced.  The entire water main project runs from the Pendleton River Walk at the 00 block of Southeast Third Street to Southeast Emigrant Avenue.

The City of Pendleton awarded the bid for this project to  Tapani, Inc. for $643,346 in October 2022.

The work will begin on Monday with asphalt grinding and backfilling of a trench over the impacted water line. All work is expected to be completed by June 30, 2023.
