Pendleton Councilor elected to League of Oregon Cities Board of Directors

McKennon McDonald will serve three-year term

Pendleton City Council President McKennon McDonald has been elected to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of the League of Oregon Cities.

Founded in 1925, the League of Oregon Cities is a voluntary association representing Oregon’s 241 incorporated cities. McDonald said she applied for the position because she has seen the value League of Oregon Cities brings.

“I think that having a collective voice is much stronger than each city individually going to the governor or state representatives. If we can join with a collective voice, it empowers cities of all sizes,” she said. “The League of Oregon Cities is a great resource, and I saw the power that that could have in being able to elevate our community’s voice.”

McDonald said she has two goals in the position: making sure Eastern Oregon has a voice in LOC state decisions and bringing tools and strategies back to the region.  McDonald joins Hermiston Mayor Dave Drotzmann is representing northeastern Oregon on the 15-person board.

The League of Oregon Cities membership elected the 2024 Board of Directors during its 98th annual Conference and Business Meeting earlier this month in Eugene. This is McDonald’s second election to the board.  At the 2022 conference, she was elected to a one-year term for calendar year 2023. The new election is a three-year term.
