City of Pendleton launches flood preparation campaign

To help make residents more aware of flood zones and planning, the City is launching a flood awareness campaign.

“Planning for any type of emergency event is foremost, ” Public Works Director Bob Patterson said. “In the case of flooding, visit ready.gov and have plastic Visqueen and duct tape on hand to help protect your structure.”

To give residents more information about steps they can take early, the new flood preparation campaign includes a new page on the City’s website and social media postings. As part of the campaign, the City has also partnered with Elkhorn Media to produce a flood awareness video, specific to the City of Pendleton.

The video covers areas at risk of flooding within the city, what to do before and during a flood event, locations of sandbag stations and information on additional resources.  The Flood Awareness Video went live on Friday, Feb. 3.

"Since the flooding events these past few years, our community has lived with increased risk of flooding," City Manager Robb Corbett said. "We have committed ourselves to doing everything we can to reduce this risk.  Part of that work involves preparing ourselves for another flood.  We put this video together to help the community be proactive in preparing themselves.  We believe most people know the risks living along a waterway, but there may be many other people who are new to the area and would benefit by the information this video provides."
